The VPA walkthrough

    What a VPA is

A battery at your home, for $0 upfront.

The Duracell 40 kW home battery mounts on an outside wall of your home in a weatherproof enclosure. Nothing goes in your garage.

You host the battery. You don't buy it.

    You
Host the battery and pay the agreed rate.
    Upgrid
Installs it, maintains it, repairs it, and insures it.
    SOLRITE
Owns the battery and warrants its performance for the full term.

    What you pay

    12¢ per kWh, all in.

There's nothing to pay upfront. The rate has two parts: 9¢ for energy and 3¢ for transmission and delivery.

    Battery only
12¢ per kWh, all in, flat for all 20 years.
    Battery + solar
A fixed monthly bill that rises 2.99% a year.
    All-in rate per kWh12¢

    Two plans

Battery only, or battery + solar.

Both start at 12¢ with $0 upfront. The battery-only rate never changes. The solar plan is a fixed monthly bill that rises 2.99% a year from year 2, and its panels recharge the battery in daylight.

    Battery only

Flat 12¢/kWh, no increase. 20-year term and 20-year warranty.

    Battery + solar

Fixed monthly bill. The rate is 12¢/kWh in year 1, 21.0¢ in year 20, and 24.3¢ in year 25. 25-year term and 25-year warranty.

Rate per kWh by year of the agreement Battery only stays at 12 cents for all 20 years. Battery plus solar starts at 12 cents and rises 2.99 percent a year, reaching 21.0 cents in year 20 and 24.3 cents in year 25. 0¢ 10¢ 20¢ Year 1 5 10 15 20 25 12.0¢ through year 20 21.0¢ in year 20 24.3¢ in year 25

    What stays on

    Your critical loads stay on.

When the grid goes down, the battery takes over in milliseconds and runs the circuits you can't go without. It isn't whole-home backup.

    Optional add-on: window or portable A/C for $20 a month, with a 20-year warranty.

    • Lights
    • Refrigerator
    • Outlets
    • Electronics and Wi‑Fi
    • Medical devices
    • Central A/C (HVAC)
    • Pool pumps

    Your part

    What you agree to.

These keep the program working and your rate where it is. They're also confirmed with you on the welcome call.

    • Use a SOLRITE-approved energy provider. A SOLRITE representative helps you enroll with one within 90 days.
    • Keep that provider and the battery's settings. Switching providers or changing the settings adds $250 to your monthly payment.
    • Keep hardwired home internet so the system can be monitored. Mobile hotspots don't qualify.
    • Let the battery help the grid. Your provider may use it for grid services. If that adds charges to your bill, SOLRITE credits them back each month.

    Who takes care of it

Installed, monitored, and maintained for you.

Upkeep is included for the full term.

    • Permits, installation, and interconnection by Upgrid's licensed team, usually in 1–2 days.
    • Maintenance, repairs, and insurance at no cost to you.
    • 24/7 app monitoring of the battery.
    • Warranty for the full term: 20 years on battery only, 25 years on battery + solar.

    Signing

Review it, sign it, then a welcome call.

Your agreement includes a right to cancel. The cancellation window is stated in your agreement.

Our energy experts don't represent your utility or any government agency.

    1. Apply online, choose your plan, and complete a quick photo survey.
    2. Our team reviews your application and calls you, then emails you the agreement to review and sign electronically.
    3. A short welcome call confirms your details and the terms you agreed to.
    4. Upgrid installs the system and it goes live.

    If you sell your home

    You have four options.

If you sell during the term, these are your choices.

    1. Transfer the agreement to a buyer who meets the credit requirements.
    2. Transfer it to a buyer who doesn't, and pay a transfer fee.
    3. Buy the system outright.
    4. Prepay the remaining payments and transfer use of the system to the buyer.

    When the term ends

At the end of the term, you choose.

The term is 20 years on battery only and 25 years on battery + solar.

There's no early termination after the cancellation window. To end the agreement before the term is up, you pay the remaining payment balance or transfer the agreement to a new homeowner.

    1. Buy the system at its depreciated value.
    2. Have the system removed.
    3. Start a new VPA.

    Common questions

Anything else, call (281) 832-4519 and we'll walk you through it.

    Who owns the battery?

SOLRITE owns it and warrants its performance for the full term. You host it at your home.

    Is there a credit check?

The agreement has credit requirements. They also apply to a buyer if you transfer the agreement when you sell your home.

Do I have to change electricity providers?

You need to be with a SOLRITE-approved Retail Energy Provider. If you aren't already, a SOLRITE representative helps you enroll with one within 90 days. Switching away from it, or changing the battery's settings, adds $250 to your monthly payment.

Does the battery go in my garage?

No. The Duracell unit mounts on an outside wall in a weatherproof, outdoor-rated enclosure.

Why do I need hardwired internet?

SOLRITE monitors the system to keep it performing. That needs an active wired home internet connection; mobile hotspots don't qualify.

What isn't part of the agreement?

The agreement covers the battery system and its equipment. Anything else, such as roofing, HVAC work, or a promotion from a salesperson, is a separate agreement with the installer or sales partner.

What happens at the end of the term?

You choose: buy the system at its depreciated value, have it removed, or start a new VPA.

Can I end the agreement early?

You can cancel within the window stated in your agreement after signing. After that, there's no early termination. To end it before the term is up, you pay the remaining payment balance or transfer the agreement to a new homeowner.

Can my solar plan's monthly bill change before installation?

The fixed monthly bill is based on your system's estimated annual production. It can change if the system's design or layout changes before it's installed.
